Who we are
We’re Casey and Josh—partners in life, creativity, and a whole lot of farm projects! In 2019, we bought our five-acre property in as-is condition and have been slowly turning it into a place that reflects our love for nature, sustainability, and making things with our hands. We tied the knot in 2024 in New Zealand and share our home with an ever-growing collection of animals, including our beloved miniature goats, chickens, geese (our living lawnmowers), alpacas, dogs Gus & Kiba, and cats Zelda & Nyx. We’re also registered beekeepers and have started dabbling in making mead with honey from our hives.
Meet Josh
Josh is the sustainable soul of the duo, with a degree in Environmental Management and an ever-expanding collection of fruit trees. When we moved in, the property had a 1.5-acre orchard filled with aging almond trees—one of which we discovered was past its prime when Casey accidentally pushed it over! Since then, we’ve been replanting with a mix of Australian native fruit trees like the Burdekin Plum, Raspberry Jam Wattle, Lilly Pilly, and Finger Lime, along with more traditional fruit trees like mulberries, pistachios, and stone fruits. He’s also passionate about permaculture, hydroponics, and finding new ways to grow food on our land.
Meet Casey
Casey is the creative half of the pair, with a degree in Fine Art and a career in Community Arts & Cultural Development at Arts Narrogin. As a professional oil painter specializing in portraits, she also explores a variety of craft and design pursuits from her studio—laser cutting, 3D printing, and upcycling old materials into something new. You can find her paintings at www.caseythornton.com.
Between farm work and creative projects, there’s always something happening at the Makers Den. Thanks for stopping by—feel free to explore and see what we’ve been up to!
